Overview – The Berkeley River Lodge
Accessible only by air or boat, The Berkeley River Lodge could very well be Australia’s remotest luxury getaway.
Sandwiched between the turquoise Timor Sea and native bushland thrumming with wildlife, The Berkeley River Lodge is set upon undulating sand dunes on the Kimberley’s unexplored north-east coast, 150km from the nearest town. Taking only 40 guests at a time, this exclusive beachside property is comprised of just 20 glass-fronted, freestanding villas with 180-degree perspectives of the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf and craggy red furrows carved by the Berkeley River as it winds its way out to the sea.
With no mobile coverage, this is a destination to really get back to nature. Guests can do as much or as little as they like from sunbathing by the lap pool and dozing in their open-air bath tub, to fishing for barramundi, helicopter flight-seeing and hiking to a waterfall. Led by expert guides, The Berkeley River Lodge activity list is as varied as the property’s environs; river cruising, rock fishing, bush walking, star gazing and sea turtle viewing are just some of the many options to enrich your Kimberley experience. Itineraries are tailored to fit individual schedules and budgets, and are subject to weather conditions and vehicle or vessel availability.
Dining at Dunes Restaurant is a pleasure in itself – quality ingredients are sourced from all over the world. Think grain-fed Angus beef, European cheeses and a global wine list. Breakfasts can be cooked to order while lunches and dinners are multi-course degustation-style. Have your meal accompanied with beverages matched by a skillful sommelier, order room service or ask the kitchen team to pack you a picnic so you can eat outdoors, by crystalline rock pools or on the banks of a sparkling creek.
