Overview – Lake House

Seated on the pretty shores of Lake Daylesford, the Lake House is a winning combination of country charm, comfortable accommodations, decadent spa treatments and delectable meals.

Thirty years on and the Lake House is still enchanting visitors and diners alike. Voted Australia’s Best Regional Hotel in 2014, the property is a collection of 33 unique rooms and suites, two Chef Hat restaurant and avant-garde spa, set on 6 acres of sprawling gardens dotted with sculptures at the edge of a lake. A popular spa resort destination in the early 20th century, the town of Daylesford is synonymous with healing thermal springs, and one bubbles up near the front door.

Guests can spend hours exploring the property and its surrounds; there are walking trails leading to Wombat State Forest, a well-tended kitchen garden, a library with an immense selection of culinary books, a classic movie repository and guest lounge with billiard table and open fireplace. Native birds are frequently seen feeding on the estate’s many fruit trees and plush versions of rosellas and kookaburras are available for sale at reception, with $10 from each toy going to the Hepburn Wildlife Shelter.

Original artworks, carefully chosen curios and quality textiles ensure that no two rooms are exactly the same. A range of configurations and layouts provide plenty of choice – the sumptuous Sutton Suite for instance would be ideal for a romantic weekend away, while the standalone two-bedroom Retreat is more suited to a family holiday. Guests have free access to the tennis court, pool and sauna, while parking and porterage are both complimentary. Special arrangements can be made (at additional cost) for instance, helium balloons, handmade chocolates or homemade cake presented in your room on arrival. You could even request a cheese platter or supper tray if arriving at the Lake House late at night.

The nationally acclaimed Lake House Restaurant is not to be missed – hotel guests get priority reservations. Almost every ingredient here is locally grown or sourced, from heirloom fruit to rare breed pork, and every dish is cooked from scratch. The Salus Spa is a must-visit also, with nine treatment rooms and an extensive range of nourishing therapies.
