Overview – Terrace Hotel

A superb fusion of heritage elegance and modern luxury, Perth’s Terrace Hotel is a sophisticated choice for visitors seeking a boutique base in the CBD with a stylish bar and award-winning restaurant to boot.

Originally named Bishop’s Grove, this handsome property was built in 1892 by the Anglican Church and is a stunning example of Federation Queen Anne architecture. Rich in historical significance to the City of Perth, the Terrace Hotel now houses some of Perth’s most sumptuous accommodations which combine period antiques with contemporary features. Rooms start at a generous 29 square metres, with quality bedding, Egyptian cotton sheets and cutting-edge entertainment systems. Items such as solid oak custom-made writing desks, lacquered Oriental-style armoires and Victorian occasional chairs however, provide stately reminders of the past.

The acclaimed Terrace Hotel Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, with contemporary meals served in a formal dining room or on the sunny alfresco terrace. Every Sunday, this dining room is transformed into Perth’s ultimate destination for traditional afternoon tea. The Rear Bar contains an impressive mahogany-panelled counter, illuminated by elaborate crystal chandeliers. The wine list is even more extraordinary, featuring 500 wines from all over the world. Premium bottles are housed in a magnificent vault, with a private collector section and cellaring facilities. Adjacent to the cellar is the Sommelier’s Tasting Room, ideal for intimate celebrations.

The hotel’s central St Georges Terrace location puts it easy walking distance from the glass-and-copper Bell Tower campanile by the Swan River. Hay Street Mall department stores and the high-end boutiques of King Street are all also just a short stroll from the Terrace Hotel’s front door. Slightly farther afield is the magnificent Kings Park, 400 hectares of native flora and an inner-city haven for birds and other small creatures. Perth Zoo is another worthwhile stop if you’re keen on wildlife; open since 1898, this menagerie houses some 160 species from endemic quokkas to Indonesian orang utans and African wild dogs.
