Australia is a great sun-drenched continent girth by postcard-worthy beaches, idyllic islands and coral reefs teeming with colourful undersea life. All around the edges are primeval forests, bronzed rivers and grassy plains inhabited by peculiar creatures such as kangaroos, koalas and wombats. Then there’s the great outback, with its interesting rock formations, endless skies and wide open spaces.

New Zealand is much smaller, but no less impressive, with spectacular coastlines, snow-capped mountains and thousands of jewel-coloured lakes. Of course, there are also odd-looking species to be found here, the best known being the flightless kiwi.

Many properties in both countries specifically cater for travellers with kids. Paperbark Camp on New South Wales’ South Coast for instance, has a special family tent affectionately named “King Parrot”, which sleeps six. Bamurru Plains, on the Mary River floodplain, has a huge standalone suite with an enclosed veranda, where deluxe swags can be set up for children to sleep. There are also many self-contained options such as Calabash Bay Lodge and Freycinet Lodge, with kitchenettes so preparing snacks for peckish youngsters is easy.

In most family-focussed properties, there are swimming pools. Alternatively, you’ll find easy access to a beach or bush trails, as well as an array of thrilling things to do such as fishing, horseback riding, cycling, scenic flights and cruises. Properties such as Arkaba, Lizard Island and Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley even offer hands-on structured activities such as tree-planting, wildlife tracking and treasure hunts, while Sails in the Desert has a range of educational cultural activities such as storytelling and dance performances.

As distances between destinations in Australia can be vast, a bit of careful planning is required. New Zealand consists of two separate, distinct islands so additional flights may be necessary and scheduling tricky. This is where our expertise comes in – contact our travel specialists today to ensure you and your clan have the holiday of a lifetime!
