Wildlife and Wilderness

Many of Australia and New Zealand’s native animals are found nowhere else on earth, and both countries are famous for their unique and stunning wildlife and wilderness. Amongst the best known are the kangaroo, koala, kiwi and platypus, while lesser known species include the Tasmanian devil, cassowary, kea and quokka.

Want to find out more about our Australia and New Zealand tours? Call one of our travel specialists on 1300 363 302.

Discover both countries’ mind-boggling diversity, from ochre deserts and boab-studded savanna woodland to sandy beaches, sparkling glaciers, spectacular fjords and lush forests. We have an array of wilderness lodges and eco-camps, as well as memorable cruises and multi-day walks which allow you to experience some of Australia and New Zealand’s remotest corners. Most properties also offer fantastic wildlife and wilderness activities that enable you to observe and learn about the many inhabitants that all these two countries home, such as guided walks, horseback riding, boat trips and 4WD excursions.

Some, like Arkaba, even encourage guests to participate in hands-on conservation programs such as tracking feral cats, while others receive visitors as a means of preserving their surroundings. Davidson’s Arnhem Land Safaris Eco Lodge for instance, is located in an exclusively leased area which provides much needed revenue for Mt Borradaile’s traditional owners – the Amurdak. Cicada Lodge in Nitmiluk National Park is 100% indigenous owned, providing valuable employment to Katherine’s Jawoyn population as well as preserving priceless knowledge of local flora and fauna.

Our specially selected destinations include Kangaroo Island, often touted as Australia’s answer to the Galapagos for its rich biodiversity as well as the unspoilt Mary River floodplain, which borders the prolific Kakadu National Park. We also visit unique, remote destinations such as Western Australia’s Ningaloo Reef, which seasonally hosts huge congregations of whale shark, and the Kimberley, where kangaroos outnumber cattle. Of course, we also feature the famous Great Barrier Reef, plus its lesser-known land-based neighbour – the ancient Daintree Rainforest. In New Zealand, you can explore renowned Milford Sound as well as the much more isolated Marlborough Sounds.

At Natural Focus Safaris, we specialise in creating personalised travel itineraries that provide insight and immersion into some of the world’s most remarkable wildernesses. Contact us to create your Australia or New Zealand adventure today.
