Hotel DeBrett

One of Auckland’s oldest hotels, Hotel DeBrett is nestled within the old-world charm of the city’s High Street and just minutes from the bustle of Britomart and the waterfront.

A luxury boutique hotel, the iconic building has been stylishly revamped and features 25 distinctive rooms. Each room is different, and offers a chic mix of mid-century modern furniture combined with contemporary comforts. Fitted with spacious super king beds, comfortable chairs for lounging around, a writing desk and plentiful wardrobe space, the light-filled rooms provide a warm and peaceful atmosphere. The ensuite bathrooms are just as divine, boasting deep baths (in all but one room), rain showers, underfloor heating, salon quality hair dryers and sumptuous bathroom amenities.

A popular spot for locals and guests alike, the signature restaurant, DeBretts Kitchen specialises in contemporary New Zealand fare. Seasonal menus make the most of locally sourced produce and are creative and fresh. With its splendid Art Deco setting reminiscent of the roaring Twenties, Housebar is perfect for a quiet, cosy drink or a social get together. The menu is inspired by the hotel’s historical past, offering plenty of classical cocktail mixes.

A favourite amongst locals, Cornerbar is the social hub and serves a sensational selection of local craft beers and New Zealand wines. For a snack, the establishment offers a selection of light meals and house baked pizza. In keeping with the hotel’s charm and style, guests can indulge in a 1920’s-inspired High Tea. Available on Saturdays and Sundays between 1-4pm enjoy a “Bees Knees” cocktail on arrival, before tasty treats including Champagne Knox Dainties, Jaffa Mousse and Hokey Pokey tartlets.

Though the hotel does not have an onsite fitness centre or spa, a stay at Hotel DeBrett includes complimentary access to a local 24-hour gym. Hotel DeBrett is also a partner with local Frome Spa, one of Auckland’s best day spas. Guests can contact the front desk for more information. Nearby Waiheke Island is just a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. Well worth a day trip, the island is filled with beautiful vineyards, walking trails and white-sand beaches.
