Beginning as a family retreat, Bay of Many Coves has evolved over the years to become one of the world’s leading luxury lodges of international acclaim. The serene beauty and wonder of Marlborough Sound – made up of four distinct sounds including Queen Charlotte Sound – is one of New Zealand’s ultimate highlights. Set on 100 hectares of pristine landscape in a peaceful cove, guests can discover sheltered inlets, sandy bays, beautiful forests and the crystal-clear waters of the sound. The region is also home to diverse marine and birdlife during certain times of the year. Species that can be seen include Bottlenose dolphins, Dusky dolphins, New Zealand Fur Seals, Humpback whales, while there are also three Cormorant breeding colonies nearby.

A member of the exclusive Luxury Lodges of New Zealand collection, Bay of Many Coves offers a variety of accommodation options for all guests including one, two and three-bedroom apartments that overlook the tranquil cove. The award-winning, architect-designed apartments are stylish and spacious with warm wooden interiors and a superb private balcony. Each apartment is fitted with king beds (or king singles) complete with fine linens and throws, beautiful ensuite bathrooms (one ensuite and one shared bathroom in the three-bedroom apartments), a small kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities and a lovely sitting and dining area.

Bay of Many Coves provides guests with a wide variety of splendid dining options. Menus are created using only the finest locally sourced and sustainable produce from both the land and ocean. The Kumatage Lounge serves a sensational breakfast, or relaxed lunch, whilst The Quarterdeck offers more relaxed, tapas style dishes and fine wines. The award-winning Foredeck is the lodges fine dining restaurant, providing guests with a romantic setting and offering both à la carte and degustation options. The onsite cellar houses a collection of New Zealand’s finest wines as well as some top bottles from around the world.

Activities & Highlights

Bushwalking is the highlight of a stay at Bay of Many Coves, with the lodge just a stone’s throw from the legendary Queen Charlotte Track. Aside from this well-known path, there are plenty of other walks that guests can enjoy that lead out from the resort. The sheltered bays and coastline can also be explored by kayak or stand-up paddle board. A host of other activities are available including cruising, wine tours and spending the day exploring nearby Motuara Island. Other lodge facilities guests can enjoy during their stay include the Miritu Day Spa, peaceful swimming pool or the relaxing hot tub – a favourite activity at night under the stars.

The easiest way to reach the lodge is via a 30-minute water taxi cruise from nearby Picton. Alternatively, guests can transfer by helicopter landing on the resorts on-site Helipad. Picton is accessed from Wellington via the Interisland ferry (approx. 3 hours) or by road or scenic train from Christchurch.
