Explore two of Queensland’s natural wonders on this self-drive itinerary staying at renowned Silky Oaks Lodge in the Daintree National Park and beautiful Thala Beach Nature Reserve.

Departing from Cairns start your adventure with 4 nights at the lovely Thala Beach Nature Reserve, located on a private headland just outside of Port Douglas. Nestled amid native forest, the property has 2 kilometres of exclusive, pristine beachfront access, lined with coconut palms and shoak trees. Guests can enjoy the private access beach as well as a wealth of exciting experiences from nature walks and stargazing to insightful talks with the local Kuku Yalangi people. The property also offers Australia’s only coconut tour, where guests can learn everything there is to know about the coconut. Included is a choice of either a full day Outer Reef or Low Isles tour.

Head north to the magical Daintree National Park, one of Australia’s most remarkable wilderness areas, and relish 4 nights at Silky Oaks Lodge. Thala Beach Nature Reserve is approximately a 50 minute drive (51 kilometres) from Cairns Airport, or a 17 minute drive (16 kilometres) from Port Douglas. There are direct daily flights to Cairns operated by multiple airlines such as Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin from major cities including Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Less frequent services operate from Adelaide and Perth and may require a stop in another city.

Days 1-4

Thala Beach Nature Reserve

Today self-drive from Cairns to Thala Beach Nature Reserve. The drive is approximately 50 minutes from Cairns Airport. Located on a private headland, enjoy the next 4 nights in a Jungle Walk Bungalow. These comfortable rooms nestle within the surrounding jungle and feature a king or two king single beds, spacious sitting area, writing desk and outdoor veranda. Onsite Osprey’s restaurant offers a picturesque dining experience amongst the treetops and Head Chef Richard Howard creates delightful seasonal menus using local ingredients. Guests can enjoy the private-access beach as well as a wealth of exciting experiences from nature walks and stargazing to insightful talks with the local Kuku Yalangi people. The property also offers Australia’s only coconut tour, where guests can learn everything there is to know about the coconut. Included is a choice of either a full day Outer Reef or Low Isles tour with transfers to and from the lodge.

Outer Reef:
Discover the northern frontier of the Great Barrier Reef around the stunning Coral Cays of Mackay and Undine reefs aboard a custom built, 25 metres sailing vessel. The area is shallow and protected home to beautiful corals, turtles and countless fish species. Swim or snorkel through the crystal-clear waters that offer vast areas of coral garden to explore.

Low Isles:
Relax on the white-sand beaches of this beautiful isle, home to the breathtaking coral gardens of blue lagoon. Take a guided snorkel tour with a marine biologist, keeping an eye out for turtles. Discover the history of the isles and get a close up view of the lighthouse on a guided Island Heritage Walk.

If you wish to explore further abroad, there are a number of nearby walking trails and towns including Port Douglas; where you can find a number of excellent cafes and restaurants. B (days 2-4)

Days 5-8

Silky Oaks Lodge, Daintree National Park

This morning self-drive to beautiful Silky Oaks Lodge in the magical Daintree National Park. Daintree River Cruise
Enjoy a 2.5 hour Daintree River cruise aboard a small, comfortable vessel accommodating just a maximum of 10 guests. This small-group wildlife cruise is operated by professional nature guide Murray Hunt, with the aim of providing the very best wildlife experience whilst providing a detailed insight into the ecology of the Daintree National Park.

After each day’s adventure, enjoy a fabulous dinner at the renowned Treehouse Restaurant. Chefs use local ingredients harvested in Tropical North Queensland’s rich food bowl along with other premium produce from around Australia to create a mouth-watering, contemporary Australian menu – complemented by select matched wines^.
